About

Hey, I’m James!

I’m an English Expat living here in Cologne, Germany. Not long ago I picked up a van, drove my stuff to Germany, and the rest is history.

With the Deutschified blog I want to help English-speaking people find their way in Germany. Whether that’s:

All of it will be touched on right here for you to devour. Most of my content is aimed at British people and expats. But, most of it is relevant to expats from other countries too.

But let me answer for you an important question…Why did I move to Germany?

Partly because I lovethe way of life here in Germany. Although there are some German cultural differences I don’t quite get, I’m as happy here as I ever was back home.

And, well…there’s always a girl, isn’t there?

In 2016 I met my Girlfriend on the first day I walked the Jakobsweg (Camino de Santiago) along the north of Spain. And we’ve been together ever since.

Initially, I wanted her to move to England. And, she wanted me to move to Germany. So, we compromised…and now I live in Germany.

In my day-to-day life I’m also a Freelance Writer and a Travel Blogger. I’ve been fortunate enough to see over 30 countries, 15 different US States and live in both Australia, America and now Germany.
